The Story Behind WorkWits
Hi! I’m Marianne Haaland, and I’ve been a labor law attorney for over ten years. Besides that, I’ve studied personnel psychology because I’ve always been curious about why people do what they do. A few years back, I even got a Fulbright Scholarship for a paper I wrote on “tunnel vision” in the workplace.
On Instagram, I run a page called WorkWits, where I share tips for a better work life.
More Than a Usual Interest in People and Work
On a personal level, life took an unexpected turn when I faced a serious illness while caring for two kids under two. I recovered after surgery, but I felt anything but “recovered.” I went from always focusing on efficiency and prestige to struggling to get up from the couch.
During this time, I learned a lot about myself. I realized I could’ve really benefited from knowing more about my body and mind before getting sick. It also made me think about the life I’d led—Had I really appreciated things? Had I taken things too personally? How many chances to grow and change had I let slip by? Had I laughed enough?
WorkWits – Navigating (Work) Life
From these experiences, I created WorkWits on Instagram.
I wanted to creat a space where we can improve our (work) lives through openness to change, better communication, and supporting each other.
I think that when we understand ourselves better, we do better at work—together and on our own.
I have a special passion for people who are open to sharing, learning and changing.
Through WorkWits, I hope to show there are many ways to make life (and work life) better.
I hope you can show me some new ways too!
Marianne
