WORKWITSRULES – BASIC GUIDELINES FOR HOW TO NAVIGATE WORK LIFE
The Purpose Behind Workwitsrules – Creating a Better Work Life
When you know more about yourself and others in the workplace, both you and everyone around you benefit. With the Workwitsrules, I hope to show that there are many ways to handle challenging situations at work—and maybe we can even avoid some of them entirely.
Most of us spend about 50% of our time at work, and during that time, I believe we all want to enjoy ourselves as much as possible.
This lecture, drawing on research, personal experiences, and a fresh perspective on work life, will demonstrate how each of us, as employees and colleagues, has a responsibility to contribute to a workplace we can all thrive in. This, in turn, can lead to greater productivity, reduced costs (both financial and personal), more sustainability for the company, and, most importantly, greater happiness.
This lecture will show how—with small, often simple and affordable actions—you can make a meaningful difference for the better in our work lives.

The Three Workwitsrules – Guidelines for Everyone in the Workplace
This lecture will show you how—even with small, often simple and affordable actions—you can make a positive difference in our work life.
The Three Workwitsrules – Guidelines for Everyone in the Workplace:
-
Be Willing to Change (Use a Compass, Not a Map, at Work)
-
Learn to Speak So Others Listen
-
Take Care of Others (You Matter More Than You Think)
In this lecture, I will cover these three core rules for a well-functioning work life:
1. Be Willing to Change (Use a Compass, Not a Map, at Work)
While it’s primarily our employer’s responsibility to create a safe working environment, each of us also has a role in building a positive atmosphere around us—both at work and at home. Most of us have at least one person we work with in some capacity. How those around us feel matters, and how we affect them matters too.
Sometimes we don’t feel well, and in those cases, something needs to change. We might need to adjust our circumstances or something within ourselves if we want to improve things. Change isn’t always easy, but it’s often worth facing a short-term challenge rather than feeling stuck in ongoing discomfort. Here, you’ll learn what might stand in the way of change and how to overcome it to adapt to all kinds of situations.
2. Learn to Speak So Others Listen
Effective communication isn’t something we’re born with—it’s something anyone can learn to improve. We need disagreements to arrive at the best solutions, but even a great message won’t get through if we can’t communicate it clearly. Excessive conflict can block communication, so it’s essential to learn effective communication skills. Here, you’ll discover what often blocks good communication and get practical tips for becoming a strong communicator.
3. Take Care of Others (You Matter More Than You Think)
Nothing truly valuable in this world is created by one person alone. While we often like to think that intelligence is what drives progress, it’s actually our ability to collaborate that determines how well a workplace performs and how much we enjoy being there. Here, you’ll learn how we can support each other as buffers against stress and pick up practical tips for building a more enjoyable work environment for everyone.
This lecture will provide practical insights into how these three simple but powerful rules can help create a positive, productive, and supportive workplace for all.
